Workshop 1: How Can Teachers Incorporate Educational Robotics into Their Lesson Plans? Initial Impressions from Studies Conducted by the STEM-Educational Robotics Research Group (SER-RG)

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Miraç AYDIN
He was born in 1981 in Trabzon. After completing the Physics Education Program at Amasya Faculty of Education, 19 Mayis University in 2001 in Turkey, he completed his master's and doctorate degrees in the Department of Science Education at Karadeniz Technical University in Turkey. He studied for almost one year at the University of Heidelberg University in Germany. Now, he serves as a faculty member in the field of Science Education in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at Trabzon University in Turkey.
 
His work focuses on improving the teaching and learning of science through integrating educational technologies (e.g., educational robotics or augmented reality). He published several papers on the content accuracy of augmented reality applications and teachers' integration of augmented reality into lesson plans. Nowadays, he has been studying with a research group called The STEM-Educational Robotics Research Group (SER-RG) focuses on working with science teachers to design and test learning environments.
 
Workshop 2: Bifocal Mathematics Teaching: Mathematical Literacy Practices
 

Prof. Dr. Murat ALTUN
 
Born in Artvin (Şavşat) in 1952, Prof. Dr. Murat Altun is married and has three children. He entered to the Department of Mathematics in Trabzon Fatih Institute of Education in 1970 and graduated in 1973. In 1986, he attended the undergraduate completion program at Balıkesir Necatibey Faculty of Education and completed his undergraduate degree. Between 1987-1989, he completed his master's degree in Applied Mathematics in Institute of Science and Technology at Uludağ University. In 1995, he completed his doctorate at Hacettepe University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yaşar Baykul. He assumed the title of assistant professor in 1997, associate professor in the field of Mathematics Education in 2001, and professor in 2007 at the Uludağ University Faculty of Education, where he works. He was the dean of the faculty for two periods. Murat Altun wrote books that are used as textbooks at universities and primary education levels. He has many publications in national and international journals.
 

Assist. Prof. Dr. Tuğçe KOZAKLI ÜLGER
 
She graduated from the Department of Mathematics Education at Dokuz Eylül University in 2012.  She awarded her master's degree in Mathematics Education at Marmara University in 2015 and her doctorate at Bursa Uludağ University in 2021. She started working as a research assistant in the Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Education at Bursa Uludağ University in 2014 and continues her works as an assistant professor. Her research interests contains mathematical literacy, mathematical competences, problem solving and posing in mathematics education, technology-supported mathematics education, professional development of in-service teachers.
 
 
Workshop 3: Learning Journey Beyond School Walls in the Light of Sustainable Development Goals
 
 
Prof. Dr. Uygar KANLI
 
Dr .Kanli graduated from Gazi University, Gazi Education Faculty, Physics Education Department in 1998. He started to work as a science teacher in secondary school at the Ministry of National Education. In 1999, he started to work at Gazi University, Department of Physics Education as a research assistant. He completed his master's study in 2001 and his doctorate in 2007. In 2010, he worked as a visiting professor at Georgia State University (United States). In 2012, as the coordinator of the project carried out in cooperation with the Innovation and Education Technologies in Ministry of National Education and TUBITAK, he prepared 44 physics experiments content to EBA. In 2014, he worked as the project coordinator on “Polatlı Municipality Science Center and Uluğ Bey Planetaryum” supported by Ankara Development Agency. In 2021, he took part in the renovation, update and development process of the same science center. In 2015, he organized the “Ankara Science Festival” within the scope of 4007 Science Festivals Support programs of TUBITAK. He worked as a researcher in the BİLMER project, which was supported within the scope of TUBITAK 1001-Supporting Scientific and Technological Research Projects, which aims to strengthen the school-Science Center cooperation and was completed in 2018. Dr. Kanlı, who has publications in the field of Physics and Astronomy Teaching, out-of-school learning environments, and science communication, worked as an executive, researcher, expert, consultant and trainer in many national and international projects supported by MNE, TUBA and TUBITAK. He is still working as a faculty member at Gazi University, Faculty of Education.
 
 
Workshop 4: STEM+PLAY: STEM Teaching with Games
 
 
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nalan KURU
 
She completed her primary, secondary and high school education in Istanbul. She completed her undergraduate education at Trakya University Faculty of Education, and her master's degree and doctorate in the Department of Preschool Education at Institute of Educational Sciences, Marmara University. She completed her post-doctoral studies in the Research Centre for Children Families and Communites at Christ Church University, Canterbury, UK. In this process, she assumed the title of international practitioner trainer from the Institute of England Emotion Coaching. Working on the fields of early childhood education, family-teacher-child communication, social-emotional learning in preschool period, emotion regulation, programs in preschool education, emotion coaching applications in preschool period, she still works as a faculty member in the Department of Primary Education at Faculty of Education, Uludag University.
 
 
PhD Student Gül YILMAZ
 
She graduated from the Department of Science Education Bursa Uludağ University in 2012. In the same year, she started working at a public school in Yalova. She completed her master's degree in Science Education at Bursa Uludağ University in 2017. The researcher, who has studies on science and STEM education in pre-school, continues her doctorate at the same university.
 
Workhop 5: STEM Lesson Plan Process and Preparation Within the scope of STEM Teacher Institutes Training Model
 
 
Assc. Prof. Dr. Bekir YILDIRIM
 
The researcher was born in 1986 in Sivas. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Ankara. He completed his undergraduate education in the Department of Science Education at Faculty of Education, Gazi University between 2005 and 2009, his master's degree in Biology Education Program at the Institute of Educational Sciences, Gazi University between 2009-2011, and his doctorate in Science Education Program at the Institute of Educational Sciences, Gazi University between 2013 and 2017. He is an author with many studies on STEM Education. He carries out his duties as the director of the STEM Education Application and Research Center at Muş Alparslan University and as the head of the STEM Education Non-Thesis Master's Degree Program.
 
 
Çalıştay 6:Matematik ve Fen Bilimleri Eğitiminde Öğretmenlik Uygulaması için Etkili Mentörlük
 
 
Doç. Dr. Fatma ASLAN-TUTAK
 
Fatma Aslan-Tutak was graduated from Bogazici University, Secondary School Mathematics Teaching Program with high honor degree (2004). Upon receiving PhD degree in mathematics education at University of Florida from (2009) she started to work at Bogazici University. Dr. Aslan-Tutak has been taking part in national and international research projects as well as in comissions on developing national mathematics curriculum. She was the national coordinator of compartive research, FIRSTMATH (2012-2015). She took roles in biannual Congress of European Society for Research in Mathematics Education by serving as co-leader ( 2014-2019) and the leader (2019-2022) of the group TWG:20 Mathematics Teacher Knowledge, Beliefs and Identity”. Dr. Aslan-Tutak’s research insterests are teacher education, mathematical knowledge for teaching, measuring mathematics teachers’ knowledge, comparative teacher education studies, professional development to improve inservice teacher practices, classroom based assessment for science and mathematics education, integrated STEM education.

 
 
Doç. Dr. Sevil AKAYGÜN
 
Assoc. Prof. Sevil Akaygun started her career as a chemistry teacher for 12 years. She received her master's degree in Science Education from Boğaziçi University (2000), her master's degree in chemistry (2008) and PhD in chemical education (2009) from University of Northern Colorado. In 2010, she joined the faculty of Boğaziçi University, Department of Mathematics and Science Education. Her research interests include visualizations in chemistry education, STEM education and nanotechnology education. Dr. Akaygun has coordinated various national and international research projects, given seminars and workshops to STEM teachers.

 
 
Doç. Dr. Armağan ATEŞKAN
 
Armağan Ateşkan started her M.A. in Biology teaching with a scholarship, which was opened by Bilkent University in 2000, and graduated in 2002. Due to her special interest in technology, she completed her doctorate in Computer Education and Instructional Technologies at Middle East Technical University. Between 2002 and 2004, she taught at Bilkent University Department of Educational Sciences and Biology at Private Bilkent High School. She continued to work as an instructor at Bilkent University between 2004-2009 and worked as a part-time educational technologist at an international school in Belgium between 2009-2012. She returned to Bilkent University in 2012. She still continues to work as a faculty member in the same department. She contributed to many national and international publications, conferences, and training and participated in projects. Her research areas include international education, teacher education, education for sustainability, environmental education, information and communication technologies in education, and computational thinking.
